The Benefits of Probiotics

Probiotics are the good bacteria that are found in some foods as well as dietary supplements. Probiotics can help tame digestion problems as well as irritable bowel syndrome and diarrhea. New research is showing that probiotics have even more benefits to one’s health than originally thought.

Decreased Anxiety

Those who regularly took probiotic supplements such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium longum found that their overall level of stress diminished. Those who did not take these supplements saw no change in their health levels. This leads doctors to conclude that probiotics are also good to decrease anxiety.

Healthier Teeth & Gums

Often when people have gum disease or cavities they can be cause from a buildup of bacteria in the mouth. A study found that taking probiotic supplements actually reduced the bacteria levels in the mouth. By reducing these levels, those who took the supplements saw their gum health improve as well as the incidence of cavities.

Healthier Heart

Researchers have found another benefit to taking probiotics. Apparently, they also reduce the level of LDL or the bad cholesterol found in the body. In fact, some people saw their level of LDLs decrease 9% in just 6 weeks.
