Pregnancy Alcoholism and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Alcohol in wine, beer, or liquor is the leading known cause of mental and physical birth defects of infants. It is clear that drinking alcohol during pregnancy is hazardous. Actually, drinking alcohol during pregnancy should be refrained from totally, and not advised. When a woman drinks alcohol during the time she is pregnant, she risks giving birth to a child who will pay the price in the form of mental and physical deficiencies for the baby’s entire life. When you plan to get pregnant or you are already pregnant, you should already take some steps to care for the life inside you, and drinking alcohol is not one of these steps.
However, there are women who do not seem to care about their pregnancy and continue to consume alcohol. With this, it is expected that the baby will be born with either a deficiency and/or an undesirable birth condition such as FAS, or fetal alcohol syndrome. You know that your child has FAS if you observed that the baby abnormal sleep duration, relatively undersize weight and head circumference.
These are only simple signs which, when manifested by your baby, would tell you to consult a doctor immediately so as to prevent developmental deficiencies in the future.
