How To Sunbathe Safely
With summer here and the sun finally showing, many of us cannot wait for the weekend in order to get to the beach or out in our back gardens for a spot of sun bathing. But we all know that sun bathing carries with it certain risks that could outweigh the tan you’ll get from it. But here are a few tips on how to sun bathe safely and get that longed for tan and warmth.
The first top tip might seem obvious but get out in the sun each day. If you gradually acclimatise your skin to the sun you will do much less damage than if you just sit out in it for prolonged periods over a couple of months.

It’s all about timings if you want to sun bathe safely, in the UK you are best staying in the sun around midday, perfect if you’re stuck in an office with just a lunch break. This is the best time to sun bathe as the sun is fully shinning but is not at its hottest, meaning you get all of its health benefits.
To sun bathe safely you need to know your limits in terms of the time you can spend out in the sun. It’s best to start with around 5 minutes and slowly work up your time in the sun, say in 5 minutes intervals until you reach an hour of full sun bathing. If you have fair skin you will need to build up your exposure slower than if you have darker skin.
Always remember to wear sunglasses in the sun, even when sun bathing. But if you sun bathe for the health benefits then remember to close your eyes and let the beneficial light come through your eye lids.
During the summer months never sun bathe between noon and 2pm, this is when the sun is at its hottest and will be very likely to cause burns, so make sure your inside for lunch by them.
Finally always remember to wear sun block if you intend to sun bathe for a long period of time.
